San Diego Mobile Pet Grooming Blog
At Awesome Doggies, we are all about helping you enjoy your pet more. There are some obvious ways we do that, like providing fast, quality mobile pet grooming. Other things may not be so obvious, like dental cleaning.
Why do we recommend dental cleaning at every visit? The answer is simple. Dental disease is the most common disease seen by veterinarians, with over 70% of dogs and cats over the age of 2 having it in some form. Dental disease is irreversible. It is also much more serious than most people realize.
Why Dental Health Matters
Dental disease can lead to much more than bad breath. It can lead to swollen gums and painful chewing. This leads to poor nutrition that can impact the health of your dog or cat, leading to other serious health issues. Without proper and regular cleaning, bacteria collect along the gum line, then harden and become plaque. This causes the gum to pull away from the teeth, creating pockets where abscesses form. It can also lead to the eventual loss of teeth, which also seriously impairs their ability to chew and sustain their health.
Poor dental health can lead to a bacterial infection that can spread to the kidney, heart, or brain.
Proper Oral Care Helps Maintain Good Health
Since dental disease is irreversible, doing all you can to maintain the dental health of your dog or cat between visits to the vet is very important. Proper dental care helps prevent the bacteria build-up that can lead to serious problems that can shorten the lifespan of your beloved furry friend.
Clean The Pearly Whites Regularly
Dogs should have their teeth cleaned by a vet once per year, and as often as possible between visits. Of course, many of our fur babies are not exactly volunteering to have their teeth cleaned and some can even find the process frightening. There are many ways you can clean your pet’s teeth at home, but one of the easiest and most effective ways we’ve found is by using a product called PlaqClnz. PlaqClnz is zinc based and an easy, anesthesia-free way of keeping your pet’s teeth, and most tolerate the process with any problem. At Awesome Doggies, we take great care in helping you maintain your precious friend’s dental health using the safest and most effective products available. We are also happy to help instruct you on how to clean your dog or cat’s teeth between mobile grooms and vet visits. Contact us for more information!
